The Best iMessage Generators in 2026, Tested

Short answer: for a clean screenshot with no watermark, use 10015.io or our iMessage generator if you want the iOS 26 layout. For group chats and photos in the thread, TheFake has the best free tier. Three of the nine tools put a watermark or their own name on free exports.

At a glance

None of the tools we could check needs an account for a basic export. TextFaker's page doesn't say.

How we checked

This is a desk comparison, not a lab test. On September 22, 2026 we searched Google-style queries for iMessage generators, took the tools that showed up most often, and read each tool's own page. We loaded two of them, 10015.io and ChatCraft, in a full browser to check for watermarks and ads directly. For the rest we went by what the tool's own page says, and we say so in each entry. We left fakeimess.com off the list because we could only reach its landing page, not the generator itself. No one paid to be included and none of the links earn us anything.

The nine, ranked

1. 1. Larpmaxxing iMessage Generator: best for the iOS 26 look

   larpmaxxingapp.com/tools/imessage-generator

   This one is ours, so read this entry with that in mind. It's the only generator we found that draws the iOS 26 layout: the floating glass header with the contact photo and name pill, round glass buttons, and the capsule compose field. It exports a 1179 × 2556 PNG, the native screenshot size of a 6.1-inch iPhone 15 or 16, with no watermark, no sign-up and no ads, and everything runs in your browser.

   Where it falls short: no group chats, tapbacks or photos inside bubbles, and one screen only. If you need any of those, thefake.design or prankshit.com (below) do more.

2. 2. 10015.io iMessage Chat Generator: best for a clean, quick export

   10015.io/tools/imessage-chat-generator

   The cleanest third-party tool we checked. We loaded it in a full browser: the page says “No watermarks”, there were no third-party ad frames around the editor, and there's no account step. It has light and dark themes, an optional “Delivered” label, and a field for the status-bar time. You can download a JPG or copy the image to your clipboard.

   Where it falls short:the design follows a generic “current iOS” look rather than a named version, it exports JPG rather than PNG, and we didn't see group chats or image attachments.

3. 3. TheFake iMessage Generator: best for group chats and attachments

   The most complete free option for a still image. Guest mode downloads watermark-free PNGs without an account, and the editor handles named participants for group threads, message attachments, read receipts, dark mode and the status bar. The paid tier is for animated video exports: a $4.99 7-day pass, $7.99 a month, or $49 lifetime, all shown as 50% introductory prices when we checked. Animated previews stay watermarked unless you pay.

   Where it falls short:no named iOS version, and we didn't render the page in a full browser, so we can't say whether ads appear.

4. 4. FakeTextGen: best for tapback reactions

   faketextgen.com/

   Its own page promises it's completely free, with no account and no watermark on the export. It has tapbacks (heart, thumbs up and down, laugh, “!!”), Delivered and Read labels, a light and dark toggle, and a toggleable clock, signal and battery. It's the only tool here that names an iOS version, and that version is iOS 18.

   Where it falls short:the PNG is about 840 pixels wide, well under a real iPhone screenshot. The site also publishes its own “top 5” list of these tools. We didn't check it for ads.

5. 5. Common Ninja Fake iMessage Generator: best for a basic iMessage or SMS mockup

   A straightforward free tool with an iMessage/SMS toggle, custom avatars, and editable time and battery. Basic generation needs no account; saving templates does.

   Where it falls short:the page doesn't say whether exports are watermarked, and we couldn't confirm dark mode, group chats or read receipts from it.

6. 6. Prankshit iPhone Text Generator: best for the most controls, if you'll pay €2

   The deepest feature list here: three-person chats, images and videos in the thread, a delivery-status toggle, a dark-mode version, and full control of the battery, signal, Wi-Fi, airplane mode and time. The catch is a “PRANKSHIT” watermark on free exports. Removing it costs €2 for two hours.

   Where it falls short:the watermark, and the site itself suggests taking a phone screenshot rather than using its Download button to keep a translucent effect, which tells you the download isn't quite identical.

7. 7. ChatCraft (faketextmessagegenerator.com): best for a mockup that's labelled as one

   faketextmessagegenerator.com/imessage

   A multi-app mockup tool (iMessage, WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord and more) with dark mode, Delivered and Read labels, image uploads and an editable status bar, exporting PNG. Every export carries a permanent “FICTIONAL MOCKUP” label, which is the point if you need your mockup to be unmistakably fake, and a dealbreaker otherwise.

   Where it falls short:the label can't be removed, and when we loaded it in a full browser, two Google ad frames rendered inside and around the preview itself.

8. 8. iFakeTextMessage: best for status-bar tweaks

   ifaketextmessage.com/

   Free, no account, and a detailed status bar: battery, connection type, signal strength, time and an airplane-mode icon.

   Where it falls short:the site's own name, “iFakeTextMessage.com”, appears in the conversation preview, so the image is branded. We couldn't confirm dark mode, group chats or read receipts from its page.

9. 9. TextFaker iMessage Generator: best for iPhone and Android in one place

   textfaker.com/imessage-generator

   A free generator covering both iPhone and Android styles, with an editable status bar and PNG export.

   Where it falls short:its page says very little. We couldn't confirm watermarking, sign-up, dark mode, group chats or read receipts either way.

If you want an app instead

For animated text-story videos rather than a single screenshot, the App Store has dedicated apps. Ratings are US App Store figures as of September 22, 2026: TextingStory (4.7 from about 65,000 ratings), Text Yourself (4.4 from about 14,900), and ChatTales (4.4 from about 6,400). All three are free to download. We didn't check their in-app purchases.

Which one should you use?

• You want it to look like iOS 26: the Larpmaxxing iMessage generator.
• You want the fastest clean image: 10015.io.
• You need a group chat or a photo in the thread: TheFake, free for still images.
• You need reactions: FakeTextGen.
• You need the mockup visibly labelled as fake: ChatCraft.
